Senior Cohousing Community 

This project included two components; the shared creation of a Common House for a group of 15-20 seniors in central Illinois and the solo design of an Individual Home for 1-2 residents of a senior cohousing community. The Common House consists of a large recreation area, shared dining room with a variety of seating choices, and a communal kitchen for residents to share for meal prep and service. The Common House also includes a mail collection area, gym, bathrooms and two bedrooms for residents overnight guests. 

The Individual Home unit was designed with universal design at the forefront of the design focus with ADA compliant spaces for residents to age-in-place with minimal interruption to daily living. Zero step thresholds, high contrast fixtures, ample lighting, and 5’ turning areas ensure residents are comfortable and safe while they maintain their independence.
